Post Map 2012
Last night, Steve B, John S, Bruce L, Ken B, Jason W, had a planning meeting to discuss a concrete plan to finish off the mapping of the West Harrison.

Here is what we have come up with:

Ken B will be the mapping coordinator

We will set some dates to ride and finish off the mapping

Three maps will be designed as follows:

Large map that will cover the entire riding area from Grace Lake to Mystery FSR ( these maps will be available to the public and installed at all kiosks),

Sectional maps showing detailed loop trails ( these will also be installed at the new kiosk locations on the trails),

Grid maps ( these will be of a larger scale and there will be 11 of them covering the riding area on the large map)

Maps will have the following information on them: streams, creeks, lakes, FSR's, North Arrow, Latitudes and Longitudes, Cellular locations, Text locations, fishing, rest areas, sponsors, staging areas, camping areas, View points, kiosk locations, contours, shading, FSR mileage markers

Some of the trail names that will be used will be, Stick Trail, Swamp Trail, Woods Trail, Razr, Power Line Trail, Francis, Beaver, Weaver Loop, Mt Davis Loop, Walian Connector, Simms Trail, Look Out Trail, Brett Bridge Trail and many more to come.

If you can help with riding certain areas, have a GPS and are able to turn your tracks into a GPX File, SWATT needs you. If you are running a Garmin GPS, we will be able to turn those tracks into a GPX File.

Stay tuned for ride times

Post Re: Map 2012
Hi Bruce.
I'm keen on coming out and helping/learning with the mapping.
What GPS brand/model do you recommend I purchase?
Thanks in advance!
Shawn

Post Re: Map 2012
Shawn, almost any Garmin will do. Personally I like my old (4 yrs) E-Trex as its fairly simple and quick to use. Not everyone needs to have one to participate, although its a good idea anyway. We found that 2 x 2man teams working together is pretty efficient and safe. It takes a little practice to get into the swing of it , since normally you are just thinking about the trail , but we got pretty organized and had a good time last Sunday. I hope to be out this coming Sunday as well. Lots of trails still needing to be run!
